Pregnancy and Chiropractic
The changing body positioning of a pregnant woman is a natural, but stressful event. Chiropractic care is essential for the pregnant mother. Her systems and organs are now providing for two and their optimal function is critical for the baby’s healthy development.
The mother’s spine and pelvis undergoes many changes and adaptations to compensate for the growing baby. During this time, the risk of interference to her nervous system is increased. Specific chiropractic care through pregnancy works with enhancing nervous system function and providing greater health potential for mother and baby.
Another important reason for care throughout pregnancy is to help establish balance in the mother’s pelvis. Because of stresses and trauma on the spine and pelvis over time, her pelvic opening may be compromised, resulting in an improper balance of her pelvic muscles and ligaments (which support her growing uterus) and may create a less than optimum passage for the baby during the birth process.
It has been demonstrated that chiropractic care significantly reduces the mean labor time by 24% shorter for first time moms and 39% shorter labor for multiparous women verses control subjects.
Chiropractic care is safe to both the mother and baby throughout pregnancy. Since baby development starts in the first few weeks, early on in pregnancy is the most important time to begin regular chiropractic care.
Pregnancy adjusting is very specialized for the changing body. Dr. Mawer and Dr. Konigsfeld are trained and certified in Webster Pregnancy technique and will take care to adapt proper adjusting techniques as your pregnancy progresses.
Our main goal with all our prenatal practice members to have a healthy, less stressed mom and baby and we will do everything we can to help that process.
